In 2022, 76,100 tons of mushrooms were harvested in Germany. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was 6% less than in the year before. Nevertheless, after 2021 and 2020, this was the third largest harvest volume since the mushroom harvest was recorded in 2012. Compared to the ten-year average from 2012 to 2021, the mushroom harvest in 2022 was up 13%.<\/p>\n
The total harvest volume of edible mushrooms in farms with at least 0.1 hectares of production area in Germany amounted to 78,200 tons. With a share of 97%, mushrooms accounted for the vast majority of edible mushroom production. The remaining harvest volume was made up of oyster mushrooms, shiitake and other specialty mushroom crops.\u00a012% of mushrooms (9,600 tons) were produced on farms with fully organic production.<\/p>\n
Acreage down slightly for the first time since 2014<\/strong> Regionally, most important mushroom production in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia<\/strong>
\nThe harvested area for mushroom production in 2022 decreased for the first time since 2014, down 1% from the previous year to 361 hectares. Because the harvested area increased steadily by a total of 47% from 2014 to 2021, this area in 2022 was still 21% greater than the 2012 to 2021 average. The total harvested area for edible mushrooms was 371 hectares (-2%), of which 14% was fully organic.<\/p>\n
\nAs in previous years, the two most important German states for mushroom cultivation were Lower Saxony with a harvested area of 197 hectares and North Rhine-Westphalia with a harvested area of 75 hectares.<\/p>\n
